School Resource Officer

The San Gabriel Police Department established the School Resource Officer (SRO) position in the summer of 2001. The SRO is a veteran sworn officer and an active associate of the local School District.

The SRO is assigned full-time to the Gabrielino High School and Jefferson Middle School, serving the needs of the students and faculty, and acting as a liaison between the school district and the police department.

The ultimate goal of an SRO program is to maintain and improve the safety of the learning environment in our schools through reduction and prevention of school violence and drug abuse.

While his primary focus is prevention and deterrence, the SRO conducts all criminal investigations on campus, coordinating activities with the school administrators. Although under the direct supervision of the San Gabriel Police Department, he is considered a member of the school faculty and as such, works closely with the principal and other school officials to determine the best course of action.
