The COMPENSATION PACKAGE
Salary - $5,063 - $6,154 monthly effective July 4, 2009
Recruit - $3,845 monthly effective July 4, 2009
Retirement - The City provides retirement benefits under the Public Employees' Retirement System. The retirement benefit is based on highest year of income, using the PERS 3% at age 50 benefit formula. The City pays 9% of the employee's required contribution to PERS. Benefits covered under PERS include death and survivor benefits. Recruits do not receive the 3% @ 50 and are considered misc. employees until they become Police Officers. Insurance- The City offers a Flexible Benefit Section 125 Program providing medical, dental, vision and life insurance coverage. Effective January 1, 2006, the City's monthly contribution toward the Flexible Benefit Plan is $915.00 and will increase to $1147.00 effective January 1, 2010. The City contracts with the CalPERS Health Benefit Program for medical insurance coverage. Kaiser and Blue Shield plans are available. The City will provide term life insurance to all full time employees in an amount equal to 100% of the employee’s annual base salary, minimum $40,000. EAP and Credit Union privileges are available at no cost, and employees may contribute a portion of their salary to a tax-deferred savings account.
Education Incentive Pay: Police Officers pursuing and obtaining a higher education receive from 3% to 9% of salary as Education Incentive Pay for appropriate college degrees and POST Certificates.
Tuition Reimbursement: Effective January 1, 2010, a maximum annual tuition reimbursement per employee of $2,951.70 is available and is adjusted as necessary to match tuition fees for three quarters (0-6 units) at California State University, Los Angeles.
