San Gabriel Police Department

Communications

Dispatcher Ambicki

The primary function of the Communications Center is to serve as a constant informational liaison to the officer in the field.  Calls for police service and requests for information from the public are received by communications personnel and a determination is made to dispatch the appropriate emergency personnel.  Around-the-clock radio contact is maintained with field officers and all activities are recorded with the help of a C.A.D. (computer aided dispatch) system.

The Communications Center is the "Public Answering Point" for the 9-1-1 system.  All 9-1-1 calls are received here and after determining the nature of the problem, the appropriate assistance is dispatched.

Communications personnel coordinate the flow of information between local, state and national databases and the police officers in the field.  In addition, this unit handles a public information counter.
